CarolinaEast Health System will gladly file your medical insurance. We are a contracted provider with Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, MedCost and many others.
CarolinaEast Health System has experienced financial counselors on staff to provide financial assistance, including Medicaid eligibility, payment plans and charity care.
If you are deemed potentially eligible for Medicaid by our financial counselors, professional staff from the Craven County Department of Social Services are on-site to assist you with your application.
If you are a patient without medical insurance or any third-party available payment, CarolinaEast will provide a 40 percent discount for medically necessary services. Cosmetic procedures and balances after insurance such as deductibles and co-insurance do not qualify for this discount. In order to be eligible for this discount you must not have any insurance or other third-party payer that has already paid or from whom payment is expected. No discounts are available to patients who decide not to use their insurance. This discount does not apply to physician services.

Charity care program
If you have financial hardship and do not qualify for Medicaid or other government assistance programs, you may apply for our charity care program by contacting a financial counselor. To participate in the program, it is mandatory that you provide supporting documentation, which may include a tax return, pay stubs, credit application completion and other information as requested by your financial counselor. Please contact a financial counselor by calling 252.633.8701 or by visiting our Business Office for more information.
Things you may need when applying for charity care:
- Medicaid denial or assessment that patient is not eligible.
- Patient or appropriate family member assistance with completion of charity care application.
- Credit application that lists the costs of routine monthly necessities, for example, mortgage/rent, car, or other installment loans and credit card payments.
It is advisable for self-pay patients with financial problems to bring in their prior year's tax return or recent pay stubs prior to the service date or on the day of service. Please contact the Business Office or Registration in advance for more information and assistance.
