(New Bern, North Carolina) CarolinaEast Medical Center is pleased to announce it has been recognized by Women’s Choice Award® as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Heart Care. This award signifies that CarolinaEast Medical Center is in the top 8.4% of 4,797 U.S. hospitals offering heart care services.

According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the No. 1 killer of American women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year, and is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined. “With such strong prevalence of heart disease, every woman should know where to find the very best heart care before she ever has an incident,” said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of The Women’s Choice Award. “We help women by conducting evidence-based research and recognizing the hospitals that could one day save their lives.”

The methodology used to select CarolinaEast Medical Center as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Heart Care is unique in that it evaluates specific Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results along with primary research about women’s healthcare preferences. The award winners, including CarolinaEast Medical Center, represent hospitals that have met the highest standards for heart care in the U.S. by the Women’s Choice Award, including a low mortality and readmission rate for heart attack and failure and high patient recommendation rating. This prestigious award recognizes excellence in heart care based on robust criteria that consider patient satisfaction and clinical excellence.

“Our Cardiovascular Center of Excellence houses some of the best surgeons, therapists and nurses around,” stated Ray Leggett, President and Chief Executive Officer of CarolinaEast. “It is indeed an honor to have this recognized on a national level by a quality organization. Being one of 407 award recipients across the country proves we have met the highest standards in heart care and we couldn’t be more proud of our team.”
