Maximizing Minimally Invasive Surgical Possibilities

CarolinaEast Medical Center is pleased to introduce the da Vinci® Si™ Surgical System to our region. This is a significant arrival because of the value it offers our physicians, staff and, most importantly, those in the region we serve.
The da Vinci® Si™ has several unique features designed to provide additional clinical benefits and efficiency in the operating room, many of which translate to patient benefits. Among the advanced operational features of the da Vinci® Si™ are:
·         Enhanced 3D, high-definition vision of operative field with up to 10x magnification
·         Superior visual clarity of tissue and anatomy
·         Surgical dexterity and precision far greater than even the human hand
·         Updated and simplified user interface to enhance OR efficiency
·         New ergonomic settings for greater surgeon comfort
Together, these technological advancements provide our surgeons with unparalleled precision, dexterity and control that enable a minimally invasive approach for many complex surgical procedures.   Direct patient benefits of these technological capabilities are:
·         Smaller incisions resulting in less risk of infection
·         Less blood loss
·         Significantly less pain
·         Shorter hospital stays
·         Faster recovery times

Commenting on the introduction of the da Vinci® Si™ System, President and Chief Executive Officer Ray Leggett said, “We believe that the new features of the da Vinci® Si™ System will help us provide the best possible outcomes and is proof of our commitment to provide our community access to the latest advancements in minimally invasive surgery.” Other advanced technologies first introduced to the region by CarolinaEast include Radiation Oncology, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, PET-CT and digital mammography.

While there are 37 daVinci® Surgical Systems in the state of North Carolina, only three other providers east of I-95 offer the technology and the CarolinaEast system is one of only four in the State utilizing the SI-3 modality, the most advanced surgical platform from which all future daVinci® capabilities will be based.

da Vinci’s advanced level of technology takes surgery beyond the limits of the human hand. This acquisition compliments CarolinaEast’s goal of extending minimally invasive surgery to the broadest possible base of patients. It can be used for a multitude of procedures,  including, but not limited to: hysterectomy, prostatectomy, myomectomy, coronary artery bypass, mitral valve repair and colorectal surgery. At CarolinaEast, the initial focus will be on gynecologic surgery with general and urological surgeries performed using the system as training permits.
