Hospital News
Each summer CarolinaEast Health System hosts local students
as part of the Youth Volunteen program. As a part of that program, young people
ages 14- 18 assist with patient care as well as administrative and other duties
at CarolinaEast Medical Center. During the summer months there are about 50
young people who give of their time to help the patients, staff and visitors at
the hospital.
As a part of the program, the Volunteens collaborate to plan
and execute a community service project during the summer. This year, as in
several years past, they have decided to partner with the Salvation Army to
host a Food and Backpack Drive to benefit local families. The event will be
held in the main lobby of CarolinaEast Medical Center on Thursday, July 19 from
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
The Volunteens have been working closely with the Salvation
Army to coordinate the event. They will be collecting non-perishable food items
to help restock the Salvation Army pantry as well as backpacks and school
supplies to be distributed to local students for the beginning of the new
school year in August.
“This event is something that the Volunteens look forward to
all summer. It is obvious from their work here at CarolinaEast that they are
dedicated to helping their community and hosting this Food and Backpack drive
is just another great opportunity for them to do that. It’s their hope that
anyone who wants to contribute will come by the Medical Center on July 19th
and make a donation,” said Laurie Bennett, manager of Volunteer Services at
CarolinaEast.
